EASY & FUN  BALLROOM DANCE LESSONS FOR BEGINNERS
Waltz,  Foxtrot, Tango, Swing, Salsa, Cha Cha, Social, Wedding Dance, and more..

So You Think You Can't Dance? Think again!
Picture
Partner dancing is so simple, yet so many of us are sitting wishfully on the sidelines , convinced we could never dance. Let's look a little more closely at the most common thoughts that keep us from joining in on the fun.

1.  "I  could never dance - I have no talent."

There’s one small catch to this logic - ballroom dancing does not require talent. It requires learning new skills, just like anything else. The good dancers you see on the floor are not people with talent. Those are people who have taken dance classes or private lessons. The ones that are really good are the ones who have taken dance lessons and then practiced what they learned.

2.  "I have no rhythm."

So you see some people can hear the beat and you can’t? How many of those people learned to play an instrument or some form of dance as children?  Consider also that little girls learn hop scotch, jump rope and take ballet while little boys are learning to knock each other down on the football field. Which gender do you think usually has an easier time hearing the beat?
If you haven't had training as a child, learning to hear the rhythm requires some basic instruction and a little practice, just like all new skills.

3.  "I don’t have a dancer’s body type  - I am too fat, too tall, too short…"

This message always seems to me the most unfair of everything we tell ourselves. So, only skinny supermodel people get to have fun on the dance floor? Really? Don’t other body types get equal rights?

4.  "I don’t want to look stupid. "

Ahh.. Now we get down to it. When you are up dancing,  you may be more visible than when you are on the sidelines. This may betrue. But when you have seen a couple get up and dance, regardless of how unpolished the dancing, do you think, "they look stupid" or do you think, “I wish I could do that?” And have you not noticed the phenomenon that when someone gets up who is not particularly coordinated  dances anyway, suddenly a few more people feel permission to get up and dance, too? Dancing is about having fun and moving around to music. Everyone wants to do it, but few have the courage to just get up and get the party started. But, once you have done it once, trust me, it is so much fun, it is much easier the next time.

5.  "I can’t afford lessons."

So let’s look at how long it actually takes to learn to dance. For ballroom and other partner dancing, you can learn enough to lead and follow in one private lesson, that’s generally about $85.
After you know how to lead and follow,  you can dance anywhere to any music and it is much easier to learn various styles of dance.  In short, dance requires very little money to get started. Of course if you want to learn dancing in more depth and/or if you want to dance like dancers on Dancing with the Stars, you need to take more lessons and practice. But,  you can learn to dance with one lesson now,  like You!

The Bay Area has so many great places to dance and so many opportunities to dance to incredible live music....

Get up from the sidelines. Come Dance!
